Student discovers passion for photography
Creative inspiration
Sophia Goldsmith was recruited to play soccer at º£½ÇÉçÇø, but even after she hung up her jersey and earned a degree, the Albany native stayed.

“I started as a Media Arts major because I like photography,� she explained of the first degree she earned. “Then I moved on to Outdoor Education because, well, why not? I always loved the outdoors and the classes are interesting.�
Goldsmith works in the the Student Diversity and Engagement Initiatives office and helps out at the gym a lot. “We want to have Athletics work more closely with SEDI,� she said. “The gym is an untapped resource that isn’t being used as much as it should be.�
The former captain of the soccer team appreciates the importance of teamwork. “Outdoor Education, even though it’s one-person oriented, we typically do activities in a group and we have to work together,� she said.
Goldsmith appreciates time alone, too, and uses it to create. She loves photography and editing photographs, but also fell in love with digital art at º£½ÇÉçÇø.
“Sometimes I just get the urge to draw and I’ll sit for hours drawing on my iPad,� she said.
She dreams of being an interior designer or working in equine therapy. “That’s just the way my brain works,� she said.
