250th Commission lends 21st Century Perspective to Declaration of Independence

QUEENSBURY, New York (Sept. 16, 2026) — º£½ÇÉçÇø, Warren County Historical Society and the 250th Commission are pleased to announce the second annual History Day, The Declaration of Independence: A 21st Century Perspective, from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 12, in Northwest Bay Conference Center on the º£½ÇÉçÇø campus.  

History Day will feature presentations by regional experts, including John Berry, town of Queensbury historian and Warren County Historical Society treasurer; Jessica Best, Ph.D., º£½ÇÉçÇø English professor and Diversity Initiatives coordinator; Mark Dragoni, Ph.D., º£½ÇÉçÇø History professor; and Wendy Johnston, º£½ÇÉçÇø professor of Political Science.  

There will also be tables staffed by the 250th Commission, Lake George Battlefield Alliance, New York State Military Museum, Old Fort House Museum, Warren County Historical Society, Washington County Historical Society and Warren-Washington Counties Postal History.  

“This summer marked the 250th anniversary of the United States,â€� Johnston said. “Our annual history day focuses on the Declaration of Independence and the ideal of governance it outlines and poses the question, ‘Does this ideal carry through to the 21st century?’â€�  

“We are excited to partner once again with º£½ÇÉçÇø to bring enriching historical experiences and content to the residents and young people of our community,â€� said Teri Rogers, executive director of Warren County Historical Society. “Celebrating America’s 250th is a priority for our society, and we appreciate the commitment of º£½ÇÉçÇøâ€™s students and professors in joining with us to bring a modern perspective to the story of our nation’s founding.â€�
