Mental Health First Aid program helps participants respond to those who are struggling

QUEENSBURY, New York (June 1, 2026) — º£½ÇÉçÇøâ€™s Counseling division is proud to offer Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training in a workshop open to the public from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 16.
“Mental Health First Aid training empowers people to recognize when someone is struggling and respond with confidence, compassion and care,â€� said Beth Braxton, professor of Counseling and chair of º£½ÇÉçÇøâ€™s Counseling division. “These are valuable skills that extend far beyond the workplace, helping us build stronger connections and a more supportive community.â€�
This free training is an engaging, evidence-based program that equips participants with the skills to recognize signs of mental health or substance-use challenges, offer initial support and connect someone to appropriate resources. The training is practical, hands-on and designed for people in all roles.
Participants will:
• Build confidence in responding to colleagues, students or community members in distress
• Strengthen communication and de-escalation skills
• Contribute to a more compassionate, supportive culture
• Gain tools to use professionally and personally
