Whether you are an adult returning to college after many years or you are a recent high school graduate, the College Reading Specialist can help you in your transition to college learning and success. By assisting everyone who needs help, Professor Faivre can provide support tailored to your learning needs.
Through one-on-one coaching, workshops and tailored interventions, the reading specialist can address specific academic challenges, build confidence and foster a sense of community for all learners. This personalized approach helps students strengthen foundational skills, such as reading comprehension and critical thinking, which are essential for academic achievement. Furthermore, by working closely with faculty and student support offices, the reading specialist ensures learners receive the holistic support they need to thrive, empowering them to meet both their academic and personal goals.
What a reading specialist does
- Works with students on study practices, text annotation, etc.
- Consults with faculty, staff and administration on strategies for supporting and improving students' reading practices
- Supports development of literacy and critical thinking
- Provides one-on-one or small-group tutorials
- Offers classroom presentations
- Develops videos with faculty addressing literacy practices in their courses and fields of study
